The Short Answer

Most people looking at a K7 today should buy the K11 R2R or the K13 R2R instead. The K7 is no longer in FiiO’s product menus, though it was still sold on Amazon US for about $220 in October 2026. The K11 R2R is $50 cheaper with less power. The K13 R2R costs about $100 more, matches or beats the K7’s power and adds Bluetooth, XLR outputs, a remote and PEQ.

#1
FiiO K11 R2R: best value for most headphones
~$170

Discrete R2R DAC, 1,300 mW into 32Ω and 220 mW into 300Ω balanced (FiiO's rating), USB, optical and coaxial inputs. Enough for an HD 600 on a balanced cable, for about $170.

#2
FiiO K13 R2R: the K7 replacement
~$319

2,400 mW into 32Ω and 600 mW into 300Ω balanced, Bluetooth 5.4 LDAC, XLR and RCA line out, remote, 10-band PEQ, built-in power supply. About $319.

#3
FiiO K7: still worth it at the right price
~$220

Two AK4493S DACs and two THX AAA 788+ amps: 2,000 mW into 32Ω and 560 mW into 300Ω balanced, with FiiO's lowest distortion rating of the three. Buy it near $220 or less.

Don’t buy any of these if you only use IEMs (a dongle is enough), or you need a mic input for a gaming headset. For that, see the Fosi K7 section below.

What Changed in FiiO’s Desktop Line

The K7 went on sale around January 2023 at $199, with two AKM DAC chips and THX amp modules, and it was the default “one box under $200” pick for a while. FiiO has since moved its desktop range to its own resistor-ladder (R2R) DACs:

  • K11 R2R: FiiO’s entry desktop DAC/amp, about $170.
  • K13 R2R: launched in September 2025 at $319.
  • K13 (non-R2R): FiiO says it became officially available on October 6, 2026. We haven’t verified its US price.
  • K15 and K17 / K17 R2R: the higher tiers.

The K7 and K9 no longer appear in FiiO’s product menus. The K7’s spec page is still online, which is where the K7 numbers below come from. It’s still sold new, but it’s late-life stock. If you’re shopping because you read an older K7 review, that’s the context.

All figures are FiiO’s ratings at THD+N under 1%. The K11 R2R and K13 R2R have three gain settings; the K13 R2R figures above are for high gain.

Two things stand out. First, the K11 R2R’s 6.35 mm jack is weak into high impedances (50 mW into 300Ω), so its balanced output matters more than on the other two. Second, the R2R models are rated at much higher distortion than the K7: about 0.017 to 0.025% against under 0.0003%. That’s the trade-off R2R buyers accept for the sound they prefer. If low measured distortion is your priority, the K7 or a Topping box is the choice.

Power Math: HD 600, Sundara and Edition XS

Method. Target: 110 dB peaks. An HD 600 (300Ω, 97 dB/mW) needs about 20 mW and 2.45 V. A HiFiMAN Sundara (37Ω, 94 dB/mW) needs about 40 mW. An Edition XS (18Ω, 92 dB/mW) needs about 63 mW. Headroom = 10·log10(rated power ÷ required power). We use the 32Ω rating for the Sundara and the 16Ω rating for the Edition XS. These are calculations from FiiO’s ratings, not measurements.

FiiO K13 R2R+8.8 / +14.8 dB+14.8 / +17.8 dB+12.8 / +12.8 dB

What it means:

  • On an HD 600 or HD 650 with the stock single-ended cable, the K7 and K13 R2R have about 9 dB of room; the K11 R2R has 4. Buy a 4.4 mm cable for the K11 R2R, or pick one of the other two. Our HD 600 amp guide has the full source list.
  • On a Sundara or HE400SE-class planar, all three clear 10 dB single-ended. See the Sundara pairing page .
  • On an Edition XS, the K11 R2R is enough with about 10 dB to spare, and its balanced output is rated lower into 16Ω than its single-ended one. The K13 R2R adds about 3 dB. More detail in our Edition XS amp guide .

FiiO K7: Who Should Still Buy One

The K7’s case is simple: a lot of clean power and FiiO’s lowest distortion rating of the three, at about $220. It has two AKM AK4493S DACs, two THX AAA 788+ amp modules, USB, optical and coaxial inputs, an RCA line input for a second source, and an RCA output that works as a fixed line out or a variable preamp out for powered speakers.

What it lacks next to the K13 R2R: Bluetooth (unless you find the K7BT), XLR outputs, a remote and PEQ. And next to the K11 R2R, it costs about $50 more.

Buy the K7 if you want AKM delta-sigma conversion rather than R2R, you run single-ended cables on 300Ω headphones, and you can get it at about $220 or less. Our full FiiO K7 review covers its build and outputs.

FiiO K11 R2R: The Value Pick

The K11 R2R is a 420 g box with a fully differential, four-channel R2R DAC built from 192 thin-film resistors (0.1% tolerance), switchable NOS and oversampling modes, and three gain settings with independent volume curves. It has headphone DC protection and a pop-noise circuit.

Its limits are power into high impedances from the 6.35 mm jack, no Bluetooth, optical input capped at 96 kHz, and an external power adapter. For most headphones between 32 and 80Ω, and for 300Ω Sennheisers on a balanced cable, none of that matters much.

Buy the K11 R2R if you want an R2R DAC and enough power for most headphones at the lowest price, and you don’t need Bluetooth.

FiiO K13 R2R: The One-Box to Keep

The K13 R2R uses the same 192-resistor R2R design as the K11 R2R in a larger, 980 g chassis with a built-in 30 W power supply. FiiO rates it at 1,220 mW into 32Ω from the 6.35 mm jack and 2,400 mW balanced, with 600 mW into 300Ω balanced. It adds two USB-C inputs, Bluetooth 5.4 with LDAC, XLR line outputs (5.3 V) for studio monitors or a power amp, an IR remote, and 10-band PEQ through FiiO Control.

It’s the most complete of the three, and on power it equals or beats the K7 at every load FiiO lists for both. Its weak spot on paper is the distortion rating, about 0.017%, and the reviews we found mostly rely on FiiO’s specs rather than independent measurements.

Buy the K13 R2R if this is the only desktop box you want to own for years, you want Bluetooth and XLR outputs, or you’re moving to a harder-to-drive headphone soon. See today's price for the FiiO K13 R2R on Amazon ↗

Fosi K7: Same Name, Different Company

Search “K7” and you’ll also see the Fosi Audio K7. It’s not a FiiO product. Fosi Audio is a separate brand, and its K7 is a gaming-oriented desktop DAC/amp that launched on Kickstarter in early 2025 (igor’sLAB lists about €155 there).

What reviews and retailer listings report for the Fosi K7:

  • DAC and amp: AKM AK4493S DAC, XMOS XU208 USB, TPA6120 headphone amp chips, OPA1612 op-amps.
  • Outputs: 3.5 mm single-ended and 4.4 mm balanced headphone jacks. Rated at 2,100 mW per channel into 32Ω balanced and 600 mW single-ended (igor’sLAB). We couldn’t find a 300Ω rating.
  • Inputs: USB-C, optical, coaxial, and Bluetooth 5.0 with aptX HD and aptX Low Latency (no LDAC).
  • Gaming features: a front-panel 3.5 mm mic input with its own gain, which works over USB in the UAC 1.0 mode, and an EQ button.
  • Price: reviews list $175.99 to $199. UK retailers list £189 to £199.99. We couldn’t confirm the current US price.
  • Warranty: 1 year from the manufacturer, per a UK retailer listing.

Buy the Fosi K7 instead of any FiiO here if you want one box for music and a gaming headset with a separate mic plug. headphonecheck.com rated it 4.6/5 and listed wobbly knobs and fixed tone-control frequencies as drawbacks. If you don’t need the mic, the FiiO K11 R2R or K13 R2R are the more complete desktop units. See today's price for the Fosi Audio K7 on Amazon ↗

K7 Alternatives Outside FiiO

If you landed here searching “K7 competitors,” these are the boxes worth comparing:

  • Topping DX5 II (~$299): rated at 3.3 W into 16Ω single-ended and 7.6 W balanced, 990 mW into 300Ω balanced, Bluetooth LDAC, PEQ, remote. Audio Science Review recommended it. More power than any FiiO here for less than the K13 R2R. See today's price for the Topping DX5 II on Amazon ↗
  • Schiit Magni (Unity) ($119, or $199 with DAC card): single-ended only, but rated at 2.5 W into 32Ω and 415 mW into 300Ω, more than the K7’s single-ended output, with a 3-year warranty. See our Schiit vs Topping comparison for the full stack options.
  • Older matchups: our K7 vs Magni Heresy page and K7 vs DX3 Pro+ page cover the comparisons people searched before those models were replaced.

What Owners Say (as of October 2026)

This section summarizes published reviews and forum discussion. It isn’t our testing.

  • K7: owners and reviewers consistently describe it as clean and neutral, with plenty of power. The common question now is whether to buy it or a newer R2R model, since it’s late in its life.
  • K11 R2R: widely treated as the budget R2R entry point. The recurring caveat in discussions is the weak single-ended output into 300Ω, which is why many owners use a 4.4 mm cable.
  • K13 R2R: reviews since its launch have been positive (Soundnews called it “the hottest HiFi deal of the moment”; Mobile Audiophile asked whether it’s a “one and done” box). Frieve Audio’s review summary scored it 2.9/5, citing the lack of independent measurements and concluding that the R2R design hasn’t shown objective advantages over cheaper boxes like the DX5 II.
  • Fosi K7: praised for gaming features and output for the price; criticisms in reviews are build details (knobs) and the lack of LDAC.
